The Currie Cup is a popular yearly competition held in South Africa. It is a competition that pits domestic teams against one another two times a year, in June and October. This particular cup actually dates back to the year of 1889. This makes it one of the oldest competitions for rugby in the World. The gold trophy that is offered to the winner of the competition is revered as the biggest prize in rugby in Africa.
The current Currie Cup works by separating the teams into two divisions. One division is guaranteed a spot in playing for the cup while the teams in the other division must compete for a spot. Once the divisions have been combined teams compete against each other until they are narrowed down to the winner of the whole competition.
