France

Living in Paris has taught me so much about French culture. My aunt and cousins live in Paris and wanted me to experience the European culture for the summer. Each day has been an adventure, as I have learned numerous mannerisms, customs and creative thinking’s while I have been there. I was able to discover french soccer and picked up pieces of the french language. Half time in french is “mi-temps” and is used when the game is at its half-way point. The french are so passionate about playing this sport that it almost makes me want to tear up.

I did learn what a soccer player is called. It is “footballeur”, which to us Americans looks like football. Remember that french soccer is theoretically American football. I will have so many stories to tell my friends regarding my Paris trip this summer. I want to teach them about the culture and how sports teams have a different approach to their players. The team camaraderie is incredible and people really feel connected. There is always celebration to be had after the games and that is a large part of their cultural differences. The players commend each other and have kind words towards one another’s plays.
